NORWICH, Conn. – The Fitch Boys’ Basketball team played an away game against NFA to gain a higher status in the ECC Division 1 regular season, with Fitch bringing home the win.

Both worked extremely hard that night and were determined to win the game. Norwich’s Wildcats were doing pretty well in the first half of the game, but Fitch got back up by sixteen points in the third quarter, and the Falcons worked together to bring home the win for that night. The final score was 68-59, making for an action-packed event for the crowd that was watching. This game helped Fitch gain status as the ECC tourney favorites.

“After they came back in the second half, I wasn’t paying that much attention to the scoreboard anymore,” said Jose Torres, a freshman at Fitch who attended the game. “It was just a great game, and I knew that they were going to win.”

Fitch had caught up by 16 in the third period and soon widened the gap. Si’kis Reels had made four 3-pointers during the game. This all helped Fitch take the win home and secure their ECC title, especially in the final few minutes of the game. They had gotten back up on their feet, having a 63-53 lead with only 1:30 left on the clock. They had gained lots of confidence and kept making those shots, ending the game with a score of 68-59 after leaving their fans scared of taking the loss in the first half of the game.

“I thought the game was fun, NFA got pretty close, and it was scary for a little bit, but I knew Fitch would pull through, and it’s always nice to see us win,” said Xavier Eastin, another student who attended the game. “Fitch did a really good job at spacing the floor, so when the time came, the drive was also there as an option. Si’kis and Jemel Stone did stand out to me; they were great.”

NFA did get a number of authentic rebounds, but Fitch was outworking them, and it was clear that they were. Reels and Stone demonstrated a solid catch-and-shoot game, and Cayden Gaskins and Xavier Goode had effective transition buckets.

Fitch went on to defeat Waterbury Career Academy on March 6 by a score of 58-54, with their next game slated for tonight against Maloney.
