GROTON, Conn. – Fitch Baseball began the month of May in a closely contested game against St. Bernard, ending with a narrow win. 

On May 1, Fitch High School hosted St. Bernard in a strong match-up that marked the Falcons’ first time playing against them this season. The game ran for two hours and 39 minutes, winning over them with a score of 5-4 in 8 innings. Sophomore Mason Williams pitched 5 and ⅓ innings with junior Mason Plasse allowing 1 earned run. He got the win, making 0 earned runs. Senior Mark McBride and Cole Young made a strong presence. McBride hit a .2 innings, and Young hit missiles at the plate. 

“I pitched for 6.2 innings, throwing outs to win us the game,” said Evan Spader. “I’d say it was difficult at the start, but through the game I was getting nifty and swift for the win.” 

Mason Williams and Mark McBride had 2 hits. Mason Plasse also pitched 6.1 innings. Sophomore Evan Spader then closed the pitch.

In the weeks that followed, Fitch defeated East Lyme at home on May 7, with a score of 4-3. Star players include junior Damion Flax, sophomore Mason Williams, and sophomore Jaxon Chaney.
