One of Fitch’s specialty clubs is attracting new members over a beloved tabletop game.
The Dungeons & Dragons club was founded in 2022, and recently had a change of leadership, with Dr. Holmes, a science teacher at Fitch, stepping in as advisor. In the previous year, the club was headed by Mrs. Jackl, and before that, it went through a series of changes. It currently has around eight members who draft and participate in campaigns, paint character models, and build terrain.
For Holmes, playing DnD has always been a pastime.
“It’s a hobby that I’ve always had, since growing up in the UK,” he said. “It’s important to have a space [to play] in a school environment.”
The club has attracted many new members in recent months.
“I decided to join because I was curious about learning DnD and wanted to join a club,” said freshman Joseph Beckett, the new Dungeon Master.
“I like learning about DnD because it is a non-academic-based activity,” commented freshman Alexander Sanders.
The club has provided a safe culture for many.
“There are lots of people whom I can relate to,” said Freshman Jazzy Gardner. “There is no judgment in this setting.”
For those interested in the Dungeons & Dragons club, it meets every Friday in room 2117.
