GROTON, Conn- Last weekend, Fitch High School Fencing hosted its Senior Day meet, where the Boys’ Épée completed an undefeated regular season.
On Feb. 21, the fencing team hosted its annual “Senior Day,” during which the team gave special recognition to all graduating members. The recognition took place as the Falcons faced off against East Lyme and Waterford for the last meet of the regular season. The boys stood strong against both teams, with the highlight being the Épée team. The team completed an undefeated season, going 16-0, beating East Lyme 6-3 and Waterford 8-1. With these victories, they clinched the ECC Division I Boys Épée Championship.
Fitch’s Boys’ Épée was headed by senior Nathan Johnson, who went 5-1 with 27 points, and junior Dane Robinson, who was undefeated on the day. The Boys’ Foil was also active, winning 6-3 against the Vikings, but then fell to the Lancers 6-3. Freshman Nicholas Carseli went 4-2 for the day, earning 25 points. The Boys’ Foil team concluded the regular season 12-4 in record.
Both Girl’s teams fell short against their opponents, but despite this, the Épée team secured the ECC #3 seed in the State Championships. In Épée, senior Aleah Alla won the most points with 19, going 3-3 for the day. The team finished its season 8-6.
The Falcons are now preparing for postseason tournaments. They will travel to Griswold High School on Feb. 28 to participate in the ECC Individual Fencing Championship. Looking ahead to March 7, the team will compete in the CHSFA State Team Championship held at The Morgan School in Clinton.
The last event of their season will take place on March 15 for the State Individual Championship hosted at Southern Connecticut State University.
