GROTON, Conn. – Earlier this month, Fitch’s NJROTC cadets participated in their annual Area Managers Inspection (AMI) and promotion.
On Friday, Jan. 15, 29 cadets gathered in the Fitch Gym for the event. The day consisted of an inspection assessing the cadet’s operations, drills, uniform, and leadership presentations. The ceremony was attended by Groton Superintendent Susan Austin, Fitch Principal Matthew Brown, the Executive Officer of the New London Submarine Base, Captain Craig Litty, and the NJROTC Area One Manager, Mr. Washington. Cadets received awards in various categories, including Community Service, Color Guard, and Physical Fitness.
Cadet Cynthia Gardner, a member of the NS2 class, was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class during the ceremony and participated in the pass and review, where cadets demonstrated their discipline and drill proficiency.
“I was super nervous, but the unit has come so far and achieved so much,” said Gardner. “I am really grateful that I have the opportunity to experience this with all the amazing people within the unit.”
For Commander Terrance Henkle, who founded the NJROTC three years ago, the ceremony marked a milestone for some of his most dedicated cadets.
“I am extremely proud of their work and effort,” said Henkle. “I enjoyed watching the personal growth of each cadet in making this event highly successful.”
Other notable promotions included Cadet Mick’s promotion to Petty Officer Second Class, and six cadets advancing to Seaman, the third enlisted rank.
