GROTON. Conn– On Thanksgiving day, Fitch faced Ledyard to regain the Colonel Ledyard sword after losing it the previous year, doing so by a 30-15 victory.
On the cold Thursday morning at Ledyard High School, the Falcons and Colonels geared up to compete in their rivalry game. Ledyard had an early start, scoring the first touchdown of the game. Fitch answered shortly after, securing their first touchdown in the first quarter. The Colonels managed to score once more, but from there on, the Falcons were dominant.
The player of the game for the Falcons was senior quarterback Porter Carter. Carter also earned Gameday CT player of the game, leading in passing yards. It wasn’t just Carter who shined for his side, but also the two Spader brothers, Anthony and Evan. Anthony had the most rushing yards for Fitch while Evan led in receiving yards.
The Falcon’s four touchdowns were executed by Mark McBride, Evan Spader, Porter Carter, and Anthony Spader.
On the defensive side, Camrin Lee-Fry racked up the most tackles for Fitch, with nine. However, the most tackles overall belonged to Ledyard’s Titus Streckfuss.
The stakes were high for this game, as Fitch needed to win in order to qualify for the state tournament. Under this pressure, the Falcons persevered and secured the win.
A week later, in the first round of the state tournament, Fitch fell to Bunnel, 42-6.
