SUMMARY
“The Conjuring: Last Rites,” which is directed by Michael Chaves, serves as the last and final movie in the Conjuring Universe. During the first half of the film, it shows Ed Warren, Patrick Wilson, and Lorraine Warren, Vera Farmiga, when they were younger, and confronted by a cursed antique object that leads to traumatic visions, and which also leads to their daughter’s, Judy Warren, played by Mia Tomlinson, birth. The second half of the movie, set in 1986, introduces the Smurl family and the same cursed antique object.
HIGH POINTS IN THE CONJURING
CHARACTERS ACTING
The acting is a solid 10/10, especially from Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson. They both did a wonderful job as Ed and Lorraine Warren, and it felt like I understood their emotions during the serious scenes, and it seemed like the actor’s actual fear. Every other actor actually felt what the real people in that situation felt: scared, terrified, and relieved. The actors did not let me down; each of their expressions seemed very genuine. I also feel that Mia Tomlinson, who played Judy Warren, did an amazing job as well. She really channels Judy’s gift of seeing the dead very well and makes it very believable. Overall, every actor and actress had done an amazing job on the very last “The Conjuring” movie, and they really gave it their all.
ENTIRE PLOT
The plot was very well put together. It felt like an adventure going with the Warrens, and each little conflict that happened in the movie was very well put, and it didn’t really feel confusing about what was happening. They made sure the plot was understandable and wouldn’t get sidetracked whatsoever. I personally loved the climax; it made me relate to my own family, and I also loved the message that was shown towards the climax and the aftermath as well. Overall, Michael Chaves, James Wan, and Peter Safran did an amazing job of sticking with the plot and not sidetracking at all.
LESSON
This was absolutely my favorite part of the movies. I believe that all movies, even horror, can have a lesson. “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has an amazing lesson, which is facing your fear and finding peace through the ups and downs. I feel that this lesson is very important because a lot of people tend to forget to live life and keep on moving forward, and so I find this lesson very personal to me because I tend to let my fears and worries keep holding me back from just living through my life.
LOW POINTS IN THE CONJURING
JUMP SCARES
The jumpscares were well done, but it felt pretty expected and wasn’t as much. Every time a jumpscare scene would happen, it felt predictable, and I didn’t find those parts pleasing. Yes, some parts felt scary, but it kinda felt “been there, done that” sort of thing. I just feel that they should have made the jump scares more unique and out of nowhere to make me jump out of my seat. Overall, the jumpscares are a solid 7/10, not the best, but also not completely the worst.
RATING:

Overall, “The Conjuring: Last Rites” was a very pleasant movie, and I found it very entertaining, even if the jump scares weren’t my favorite. I would recommend this movie if you are into the whole Conjuring universe, because it will only make sense if you have at least watched the first or the second movie to understand the final installment of the Conjuring series.
