GROTON, Conn. – On the night of October 4, Robert E. Fitch High School hosted its annual Homecoming dance, hosting over 500 students for a night of dancing and singing.
For a brief period, it was reported that guests from other schools would not be permitted to attend the dance, but this was quickly reversed. When speaking to our principal, Matthew Brown, he expressed concerns for staffing, costs, and keeping homecoming a Falcon family event. After hearing from many students, including our 12th-grade class advisors, Mr. Brown decided to listen to students’ voices and continue the tradition of making homecoming open to all high school students.
The theme of the dance was Gotham City, and our students came dressed to impress in their themed attire. For example, some students dressed as Batman to show their school spirit.
Opinions varied among students on how enjoyable the event was, with some feeling like it was a fun affair.
“It’s something special when a school can come together and just dance,” said Mariah Williams.
“It was a very fun and enjoyable experience,” agreed Akira Gregor. “I am so glad I was able to get together with my friends.”
Other students were less enthused, with some students who wished to remain anonymous commenting that it was “boring” and they “didn’t have any fun.”
Still, with the guests back, students were back on track to dance the night away. For many, the event provided an opportunity for students from all grades to come together and bond. By the end of the night, many were excited for next year.
“Homecoming was really fun,” said Cameron Barber. “I’m looking forward to it again next year.”
