GRISWOLD, Conn. – The Fitch boys’ varsity soccer team traveled to Griswold for the first game of the season, and brought home a win for Gtoton.
The Falcons went into the game with fresh, youthful faces. Freshmen Mattias Lopes, Carson Wheeler, and David Connell were some of the ninth-grade recruits. That said, the team wasn’t deprived of experience and came in with six seniors.
Fitch started strong, and within 20 minutes, senior Felipe Dantas scored. The next, some 10 minutes later, also came from Dantas, who slid a ball to the bottom corner. The third came from freshman Mattias Lopez, finding himself one-on-one against the goalkeeper. Towards the hour mark, the Falcons were able to score once again by junior Luca Jump. Just five minutes later, Griswold was able to find the net for the first time. The final goal was put away by Jump, finding himself with plenty of time to shoot. The final score was 5-1.
The Falcons traveled to Stonington on September 6 to compete in the Piver Cup against Chariho. They were defeated 2-0. The team aims to continue its winning streak when it faces Norwich Free Academy for its first division matchup on September 9.
