GROTON, Conn. – The Fitch High School boys’ golf team defeated Old Saybrook, 180–191, on Friday, April 25, at Shennecossett Golf Course.
Fitch held a match at their home course, Shennecossett, the final score was 180-191 with Fitch for the win. The winning matches were Michael Malone and Nathan Johnson being the co-medalists of the match shooting 44 on 9 holes.
“Everyone was really focused on doing their best, and it showed by the score in the end,” said freshman Michael Malone. “We were all very driven to win, and in the end, we came out with the win.”
Michael Malone and Nathan Johnson currently hold the No. 1 and No. 2 varsity spots for Fitch this season.
“Overall, the team did pretty good,” said junior Nathan Johnson. “The course was in rough condition, so we had to play the ball up. I think we could have saved a couple of strokes with our short game.”
This was Fitch’s first match against Old Saybrook this season and their first victory over Old Saybrook in the past two years.
Fitch’s next match took place on May 5 at Norwich Golf Course, where they competed in a tournament against Norwich and other teams from the Eastern Connecticut Conference.
