GROTON, Conn. – A junior writer for the Falcon Press has been accepted into an exclusive summer journalism program in Washington, D.C.
Millie DeBell will be attending the prestigious Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism conference this summer. This program only accepts 51 students in the entire country who are in the 11th grade to attend this conference. One student from each U.S. state and Washington, D.C. is chosen to represent their school and state at this conference. The students chosen to attend this conference are passionate about pursuing a career in journalism. Mille has been invited to this conference due to her notable journalistic work.
“I was thrilled that all of my hard work and dedication to a future in journalism had paid off, and the feeling was super gratifying,” said DeBell. “I can’t wait to collaborate with other students who are just as ambitious as me.”
Al Neuharth was the founder of USA Today. Alumni from the conference have gone on to work at the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, ABC News, and the U.S. State Department.
“Millie is one of the most valuable contributors,” said Rick Pecka, advisor for the Falcon Press. “She has written a wide array of stories and has co-written an article that was published in The Day.”
This summer, DeBell will also be attending the New York Times Summer Academy. This program explores a variety of topics, journalism being one of them. While attending this program, she will be working alongside New York Times journalists and experiencing real-life work in the field of journalism.
