GROTON, Conn. – At the start of April, Mr. Jason Wolfradt was named Teacher of the Year after being nominated by and voted on by his peers.
In late March, Fitch faculty were given the chance to nominate their picks for teacher of the year. Mr. Wolfradt, a noted PE teacher at Fitch, was one of 16 nominees, comprised of both teachers and guidance counselors. The candidates were revealed to the faculty during a meeting on April 1, with the final announcement being made a week later on April 8.
“It was very cool to have a peer recognize my work and be nominated,” said Mr. Wolfradt, “I never expected to win. I was pretty shocked; when Mr. Brown came down to the gym, I assumed he wanted to talk to me in regards to the upcoming student-staff basketball game!”
Many students were firm that he was the obvious choice, stating his dedication, high energy, and ability to connect with students.
“I feel like he’s the obvious choice for winning Teacher of the Year,” said student Camila Santini. “I have two of his classes, one on A day and one on B day, and he’s just really fun. He’s always talking to us, he just makes it known that he cares for us, and I just think he’s a really good teacher.”
Last year’s Teacher of the Year, Ms. Scala, ran the voting process that led to Mr. Wolfradt’s nomination and eventual win.
