UNCASVILLE, Conn. – On Saturday, March 15, the Fitch Boys Basketball team traveled to the Mohegan Sun Arena to participate in the CIAC Division III Championships, ultimately coming up short despite a fighting effort.
The Fitch team battled spectacularly hard against the other finalist, Bunnell High School from Stratford. It was the first time in school history for the boy’s basketball team to be competing in a state championship final. Although the Falcons came into the finals with momentum, Bunnell entered with established confidence having won the competition last year. The team, headed by their first-year coach, managed to secure the championship 70-61.
Though the Falcons were defeated, they had many top performers across the court. One such performer was junior Xavier Goode. Goode managed to secure 15 points in the game, as well as completing his 1,000-point milestone. By the end of the season, he ranked fourth overall in the state for pt/32 (points per 32 minutes of play).
The Falcons started the season hot, holding a 4-1 record going into January, but could not maintain their form. February saw Fitch drop three consecutive games over four days. The team recalibrated from there, only dropping one game to NFA following that as they entered the playoffs, with many games ending in double-digit leads for Fitch.
The season concluded with a 17-9, 6-4 away record for the Falcons.
