Fitch’s Pottery Club is one of the newer additions to the special interest clubs at FHS.
The club was founded by Kara Caster, a sculpture teacher at the school. The club was started a few years ago but has been going on periodically. It is split up into two separate sessions. The second session will begin after the spring recess. During the sessions, the members will work on various projects on the wheel, hand sculpting, and glazing the final products.
“It is not incredibly structured so each member has the freedom to work on whatever they would like and are encouraged to test out various techniques with all the different supplies that are available”, Caster said. “ I love it because it gives me the ability to make some special pieces that I don’t have the equipment or resources to make at home.”
Caster herself is incredibly passionate about the art of pottery.
“I think pottery is so amazing because the act of creating is relaxing and also because of how versatile a medium like clay is,” she said. “Every morning I eat oatmeal out of a bowl that I made in the pottery club, and I keep all my trinkets in a ring dish I made. I appreciate these items so much because of how much effort I put into making each of them.”
For those interested in the pottery club, it will begin meeting again on April 23 in room 2714 from 2:30 until 4 p.m.
