GROTON, Conn. – Earlier this month ceiling leak caused chaos during the second lunch wave at Fitch High School
The leaks, which have no clear explanation but are likely caused by the weather, splashed onto a group of boys and their food. Fitch’s school resource officer, Scott Bousquet, moved three tables and placed a trash can under one of the leaks. Meanwhile, Officer Bousquet used the end of a broom to poke holes in another area of the ceiling which had not yet started leaking but was becoming heavy due to the water.
“Apparently, there was a lot of water and snow on the roof,” said SRO Bousquet, who helped out during the incident. “Therefore the water found a way in the ceiling tiles… The tile started to bubble, so I poked it to release the pressure before it could explode.”
Many students found the leak unsettling and grossed out about the leak. Apparently, the leaking wasn’t long but cleaning it up was the longest part since it was only two people who had to clean it up, which was SRO Bousquet and [a custodian].
“At the table behind me, water started to come down from the ceiling,” said sophomore Luciana Rowsam, who was also there during the incident. “There was water spilling onto the table. Then Officer Bousquet and [a custodian] had moved the tables after cleaning it up.”
Though Rowsam wasn’t directly affected by the leaking, she found it pretty gross, especially if your lunch was nachos since the cheese can remind you of the water.
Even though there are still holes in the ceiling, the school hasn’t announced whether repairs will be made or not. Lots of students don’t seem to be bothered or even notice the holes in the ceiling.
