GROTON, Conn. – On Feb. 19, Fitch’s Film Club premiered “La La Land” as part of a fundraiser, the money will be given out among all of the classes.
Last Wednesday, the Film Club – led by Donald Motzko, a teacher at Fitch High School – played “La La Land” in the auditorium as a way to bring attention to the club and raise money. Admission to the movie was free, all families in Groton were welcome, and baked goods were sold to make a profit. The profits raised are to be split up between all of the classes.
The event was put in place to not only raise money but to promote the club. Overall the fundraiser was deemed to be a success, “We plan to do this three or four more times with different movies, exploring different genres, etc”, said Film Club member Christian Carreño. “Around $300 was raised”.
The money raised is going to be split up between the classes and will be used for things like ensuring there’s a good prom and making sure there’s a senior trip.
“It was a lot of fun,” said an anonymous student who attended. “I liked that I was able to support the cause while hanging out with my friends”.
It provided the community with a way to engage with each other while simultaneously supporting the school and its students.
Overall the night was a big hit; the community was able to come together, watch a movie, and raise money for the students. The film club meets on B-days in room 1211, and they are taking recommendations for future movies on their Instagram.
