WATERFORD, Conn. – Fitch Cheerleading team headed to the ECC championship competition earlier this month and walked away ECC 2025 Grand Champions.
The team traveled to Waterford High School on Sunday, Feb. 16 in hopes of holding onto their undefeated season. By the end of the day, they won the ECC 2025 Division 1 Championship and earned the title of ECC 2025 Grand Champions. The team had another important win as well, with their head coach, Coach Melissa Robinson, taking the title of ECC 2025 Cheerleading Coach Of the Year.
The ECC Sportsmanship winners from Fitch were Kaylonna General and Lauren Pelletier. The ECC Academic Athletes were Destinee Pena and Isabella Braucci.
Looking back at the team’s previous seasons, this was the first time in 10 years that Fitch has won the ECC cheer competition, defeating rivals Killingly and East Lyme along the way. This year’s season they have won every competition and achieved grand champions at a few of them leading up to the ECC competition.
At the ECC’s, their division final score was a 79.3, landing them in first. This was a huge accomplishment for this particular team, since the last two years they have lost, but ended up winning in states.
Their routine this year for the ECC wasn’t a hit zero. However, they were able to fight and achieve this win through the huge amount of effort the whole team put in along with support from coaches.
