WATERFORD, Conn. – Last Saturday, the Fitch fencing team traveled to Waterford High School to compete in the Inigo Montoya Invitational.
The competition hosted schools as part of the Eastern Connecticut Conference. Fitch did exceptionally well in the competition with the team taking home four medals. Zahnayia Gonzales took gold and Ava Lyons took bronze in the women’s individual foil. In the women’s epee, the team went into direct elimination where Lily Johnson came out with a fifth-place medal, adding to their success. The Fitch girls also placed second in the varsity relay event with Aleah Alla, Aarthy Nhem, Ava Lyons and Lily Johnson all contributing.
The boys also placed highly for Fitch, earning a seventh-place position in the foil. The squad was comprised of Sam Alvaran, Alexander Knets, Lochlan Lewis, and Jacob Alina.
The fencing team’s next scheduled meet is on Saturday, Feb.8, where they will face East Lyme and Waterford. It is set to be hosted at Waterford High School.
