NEW LONDON, Conn. – Before the Christmas break, the Fitch indoor track team began their season with an ECC development meet hosted at the Coast Guard Academy.
The meet consisted of many schools from across the region, including Waterford, East Lyme, and Ledyard, Lyman Memorial, and Saint Bernard High School. The Fitch boys team started strong, placing second in the 4×180 relay. Alexander Campos Diaz, Omar Davis, Justin Jimenz, and Michael Kissi were all part of the team. The boys’ team weren’t the only ones who saw success during the 4×180 relay, the Fitch girls were first in their round. The winning team comprised Hannah Thomas, Alaina Campbell, Grace Cosmopoulos, and Braelynn Duran.
The Falcons secured other victories throughout the meet as well. The Fitch boys team won the long jump with Caylen Morris placing first. The Falcons also placed second in the weight throw from Charlie Cotto, and third in the 55m hurdles thanks to Jermain Manning.
The Fitch girls placed first in the 55-meter dash; both Valerie Codd and Grace Cosmopoulos tied for first, with a time of 7.84 seconds. The girls also scored highly in the shot put, where Bethany Lovering scored 33-09.50. In the 55m hurdles, Hannah Thomas took second place.
As for other meets, the Falcons had another ECC development meet last Thursday, Jan.4. After the meet concluded, some were able to qualify for the upcoming ECC invitational meet. The next meet as of when this article was published, is Saturday, Jan. 11 for a USCGA invite at 10:00 am.
