GROTON, Conn. – Leading up to winter break, Fitch had its annual holiday spirit week, launching several days of ugly sweaters, music, holiday attire, and more.
The event kicked off on Monday, Dec. 16 with a two-hour delay and ugly sweaters. Along with this many teachers were putting the finishing touches on their doors in preparation for the annual Door Decorating Contest which would be judged on Friday. On Tuesday, the theme was Around the World, a day to represent your culture/background. That night was String Fest, a district-wide combined orchestra holiday concert with over 200 students participating. Wednesday was holiday character day, and the school was filled with recognizable characters like Reindeer, Buddy the Elf, and Kevin from Home Alone.
The following day’s theme was holiday pajama day which can be seen as the most participated day from the students. Also as the last b-day before the break, many holiday class parties were had and the excitement for break increased. That night was Fitch’s band and orchestra holiday concert as well. On Friday the theme was Festive Falcons where upperclassmen dressed as Santa and the lower class men as elves. During the day there was a concert in the auditorium for the students to attend. It featured the ASL class who performed 12 Days of Christmas where the audience could participate. The concert also included the Jazz band, a group of students performing a hymn, and Triple V, an orchestra quartet.
“I believe the concert was a great way to get people into the Christmas spirit and spirit week was so much fun,” said senior Lilyanna Gomez.
With dismissal at 2:20 PM, Spirit Week officially came to an end, giving way to 11 days of Winter Break for students and faculty alike.
