“Home Alone” is a six-movie franchise based on the general idea of leaving your kid home alone. How they made six movies based on that premise is beyond me. I watched the original two for this review, originally having plans to review all six before realizing how rough the third one was with the beginning alone and the premise seeming too serious.
“Home Alone”
This is the one that started the whole franchise. “Home Alone” is about a kid named Kevin being left at home while his family goes to Paris for a vacation. Kevin also has to defend his home from burglars while his family is gone.
I watched “Home Alone” for the first time just to write the 6 reviews. The movie was good, it’s something I enjoyed watching and laughed at while watching. The movie’s music and humor were perfect. The movie has an A plot and a B plot, between Kevin in America and his family away from him, but the main focus is on the A plot with Kevin in America. Thanks to a miscount of 11 people, Kevin is somehow left at home. Since there’s a direct sequel and at the time of me writing my review for this movie I haven’t watched it yet, I wonder how they forgot about him for a second time. “Home Alone” had an amazing ending that made me happy, though I expected it since it was kinda obvious.
The movie was amazing and I’d recommend it, 5 stars. The movie is available on Disney+.
“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”
This movie is a sequel, taking place a year after the original movie. The movie is about Kevin getting lost in New York City after getting his family mixed up and following a stranger instead. While exploring the city, he encounters the some robbers he faced when he was originally left home alone.
I liked the sequel, but the movie is unnecessarily long in my opinion. I feel as if the movie was stretched out. The movie, including the credits, is 2 hours and 1 minute long. It did get a few chuckles out of me and I enjoyed the comedy in it. I liked how the movie had way more focus on Kevin than his family, the heart-warming moments were also good and touched my heart.
I would somewhat recommend the movie, giving it 4 stars. The movie is also available on Disney+.
The Non-Culkin Sequels
There’s a third movie that was theatrically released, but it is missing Kevin entirely. I watched about 11 minutes of this film and realized that it was going to take things more seriously than the first two. There are three more sequels that were made TV: “Home Alone 4,” “Home Alone: Holiday Heist,” and “Home Sweet Home Alone.” I read a bit of info on the fourth movie, and it seems like Kevin returns, just not played by Macaulay Culkin. I also read that the parents are seemingly going through a divorce or planning to file for one. I heard the movies afterward are at least somewhat enjoyable, but it would be hard to capture what the first two films did
