GROTON, Conn. – The annual Fitch Powderpuff game took place the night of November 25 and had an incredible turn of events.
Compared to previous warm days it was a cold night for football but turned out a decent crowd. The week leading up all teams had the football field after school to practice. However, many teams struggled with having a complete team practice, especially with a rainy day tossed in.
In the first round, the Senior powderpuff team went against the Sophomore class. Shockingly, the senior team lost to the sophomores. The Junior team went into their first round against the freshman and with no surprise won. Not that the freshman team didn’t put up a good fight for their first year. The playoff between the Sophomore and Junior classes was intense and close. The Senior game against the Freshman team was a fight but not as bad and the Seniors came out securing third place with the freshman finishing last.
The first-place game was so close it went into overtime. The play went back and forth and finally, the sophomores scored the winning touchdown that sparked a huge reaction from the crowd.
The Sophomores came out on top and won their class $420 from the entrance fee money. The MVP of the game was sophomore Leilani McCoy.
