Just before Thanksgiving break, a new homecoming tradition was launched: Volleybrawl.
Volleybrawl was designed as a men’s volleyball tournament created several years back at Fitch, but this was the first time it was played in about five years. The match was played by Fitch students whose teams were sorted by grade. The student leadership team directed by Ms. Christina Scala made this event possible. The game had a tremendous amount of build-up among students.
The tournament’s first round started with the freshmen taking on the seniors, then juniors playing the sophomores. The first match concluded with the seniors advancing into the winners’ bracket. Notable players from the freshman team included Reyniel De La Cruz, Alex Miranda, and Gabe Cook.
The junior versus sophomore match ended with the sophomores on top. It was a hard-fought push from the 10th graders as the two grades were more even in size and strength. Top performers from the juniors were Vinny Spagnolo and Gabe de Dios.
The championship commenced shortly after. The sophomores and seniors could hardly be split with Luca Jump, Gabe Georges, and Jacob Smith scoring a number of points for the sophomores. However, the match concluded with the Seniors winning the first annual Volleybrawl. This was possible thanks to their super side, which included Shea Cahill, Titus Brown, and Fabian Aponte-Flores.
Fans will hope Volleybrawl will continue next year as it was a great way to show school spirit.
