Leading up to this year’s Winter Break, the members of the Falcon Press Staff will be sharing their favorite holiday films each of the 12 days leading up to the last day of school on Friday, Dec. 20. We hope you enjoy this feature, our thoughts on the movies listed, and the memories we associate with them!
Camila Montoya – Daddy’s Home 2
A Christmas movie that you can’t miss if you want to laugh with your family, a different theme but with the same Christmas concept; being together as a family. This movie brings a new style of celebrating Christmas in a family, even if the parents are separated.
Lillian Strapazzon – “The Nightmare Before Christmas”
Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” has got to be one of my favorite Christmas and Halloween movies. My family even has “The Nightmare Before Christmas” ornaments decorating our tree yearly. One of my favorite parts about the film is its beautiful animation style. The use of clay stop-motion animation is unique and really enhances the visual themes of the film. It also takes a lot of effort (it took about 3 years to make) and it’s just really cool to see the finished piece of a very tedious process. In addition to the visuals, the music is well-written and incredibly catchy. Some of my favorites being, “Jack’s Lament” and “This is Halloween”. The worldbuilding and blend of the two holidays give the perfect excuse to watch it throughout fall and winter.
