Leading up to this year’s Winter Break, the members of the Falcon Press Staff will be sharing their favorite holiday films each of the 12 days leading up to the last day of school on Friday, Dec. 20. We hope you enjoy this feature, our thoughts on the movies listed, and the memories we associate with them!
Avery Sanchez and Elias Slocum: “Elf”
Avery: By default, I don’t watch many holiday movies, tho from the two I’ve watched and liked, “ELF” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” I liked “Elf” more. Tho I’ve only watched it twice, I liked the comedy in the movie, it can make you laugh depending on your sense of humor. The story is amazing, something slightly different than other holiday movies with a Santa character, though it’s something I enjoyed and would watch over and over again. I first watched the movie when last year since, like I said, I don’t watch many holiday movies. The performance by Will Ferrell is phenomenal, something I love in comedy movies. I rewatched the movie again recently and I liked it the same as I did then.
Elias: I don’t really watch a lot of movies, especially not holiday ones, but I do really love “Elf.” Although it is very silly, it’s a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages and just reminds me of Christmas time and winter. I also really like the effects and how they managed to work with perception and CGI to create the North Pole. The story is also quite sweet and the ending of the movie is nice. I honestly appreciate that it’s outlandish and awkward as it makes it more rewarding when things work out. The morals about loving others and prioritizing family mean a lot to me. Lastly, the improv and performances in general are really well done.
