EAST LYME, Conn. – Last month, the Fitch girls co-op swim team traveled to East Lyme High School to compete in their first ECC meet of the season, turning in a performance that earned them a spot in state trials.
They swam against many teams in their conference, including Norwich Free Academy, Ledyard High School, Waterford High School, and East Lyme High School.
The team was focused and energetic throughout the meet and earned second place. The Fitch team was defeated by East Lyme High School, who won by one hundred points and finished by bringing home their 24th straight ECC title.
Notable players for the Fitch side included JaiLynn Wheeler for the 200 freestyle, Anna Orphanides for the 100 butterfly, and Addison Fulling who won the 100 backstroke. The meet concluded with East Lyme finishing with 582 points, Fitch with 482, Ledyard with 277, and Waterford with 259 points.
The Fitch girls co-op team went on to compete at state trials on Nov. 9, with multiple members qualifying to swim in the CIAC class championship meet held in West Hartford on Nov. 12 and 13.
