GROTON, Conn. – Last month, the Fitch Debate Team hosted a trick-or-treating event at Fitch High School that was well-received by the public.
Dubbed “Fitch-or-Treat,” the fundraiser occurred between 4 and 6 p.m. in the 2100 and 2200 hallways. Members of the team dressed up and handed out candy to local families, similar to a trunk-or-treat event. Admission was $5 per family, and more than 20 families attended the event, including a handful of Fitch teachers.
The money raised from the event went to paying the team’s annual dues to the Connecticut Debate Association, which allows them to compete in six annual competitions across the state.
The Debate Team is looking to expand the fundraiser and make it even better next year, as it was well-received by members and the public who attended.
This added to a busy fall for the team. They attended the first CDA competition of the year on Oct. 19 at Joel Barlow High School in Redding. They also attended the NAACP Great Debate in Bloomfield with the Black Student Union and More Than Words.
The Debate Team hosted the second CDA competition of the year on Saturday, Nov. 9, two weeks after their fundraiser.
