GROTON, Conn. – A recent incident with a bus caused students at Robert E. Fitch High School to face a massive delay in going home following dismissal.
On Sept. 18 at 2:58 p.m. Bus 25 got crashed into by another bus. Everyone involved in the crash was unharmed , but the back window of the bus got damaged. This crash caused students a delay on going home, many students were kept in the auditorium, gym, and lunchroom during the delay.
“The window in the back of the bus got shattered,” said Sergio Zuluaga-Minaya, a freshman on Bus 25. “two buses were involved in the accident, but my bus got crashed into.”
The other bus that crashed into 25 was unknown.
“Several buses ran into each other and that caused a safety concern,” said Assistant Principal Adam Diskin. “We needed to ensure students could be safe so students had to stay in their classes.”
“Our students were awesome and respectful during this time,” said Principal Matthew Brown.
This was the second consecutive week involving a bus accident in the area. A week prior, a school bus from Mystic River Magnet School and a Volvo crashed into each other. One student got injured in the crash and had to be hospitalized.
This delay caused a ripple effect with the Groton Middle School and the elementary schools in the Groton District. The delay at Fitch caused a delay with the Groton Middle School buses and the elementary school buses.
The administrative team seemed very proud of everyone, students and staff.
