Sabrina Carpenter’s highly anticipated album “Short N’ Sweet” dropped on Aug. 23. This dropped following her fifth studio album, 2022’s “Emails I Can’t Send”, which was a big hit for the artist and helped her gain an even bigger following. “Short N’ Sweet” was looked forward to by many after she released two singles, and they quickly became her most popular hits.
Taste
Taste is the opening song for the album and really makes an imprint on what the album is going to be about. This song is one of the most iconic on the album and is one of the most remembered. After the release date of the album, Taste was released with an official music video featuring actress Jenna Ortega. This track has been reported to be about the love triangle between her and singer/songwriters Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendez. I would rate this song 8/10.
Please Please Please
This track was released as a single on June 6 with an official music video starring her boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan. This song was a huge hit for the artist and is currently sitting at 809 million streams on spotify. This song is very upbeat and very catchy. This song has had a huge impact on her career because it attracted more fans to her unique voice. Although this song is so popular, I will never get sick of hearing it because it is such a catchy feel-good song. This song is a 6/10.
Good Graces
This track is the third on the album and is easily my favorite song. This is such a catchy song and it makes you want to get up and dance to it. This song is one of the brightest songs on the album and gives that special kick. Carpenter is a lyrical genius and it shows in this track. This song sits at a 9.5/10.
Sharpest Tool
This track is more on the emotional side of the album and provides heavier emotions. This track covers topics like miscommunication during a relationship. This song is amazing. Her Carpenters vocals really shine throughout the entire song. One of the key lyrics she uses a lot throughout the song is “we never talk about”. This lyric shows that miscommunication is hard and it is something that is important during a relationship. This song is a 6/10
Coincidence
This track is the fifth on the album and adds a lot to her character. This song mainly contains a guitar backtrack which adds so much to the song. This song talks about how people’s exes can still have an imprint on your life and it goes over topics like love triangles. This song is another example of the love triangle between her, Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendez. This song sits at a 7/10.
Bad Chem
This song is another one of my favorites and it adds a lot to the album. This track is about her bedroom chemistry with men. This was definitely a surprise during my first listen, but I love this song and it is very catchy. This is another song that references her current boyfriend. This song is a 8/10.
Espresso
“Espresso” is Sabrina Carpenter’s biggest hit of her career to date. This was originally released as a single, and is the definition of summer music. This track is so catchy and quickly gained her more popularity. Currently, “Espresso” sits at over 1 billion streams on Spotify. This song does get old if you listen to it too much but only because of how much people talk about it. This song is a 6/10.
Dumb & Poetic
This is one of my least favorite tracks on “Short N’ Sweet,” but regardless, it is relatable to many people. I was not a fan of the vocals she put into this song but the lyrics hit really deep and it is so relatable to a large group of people. This song goes over the topic of being involved with someone that says one thing but acts differently. This is another relationship song, but it is more on the sad side. This is a 4/10.
Slim Pickins
This is another iconic song from the album because of one lyric that got put into the song. She says, “This boy doesn’t even know the difference between there, their, and they are”. This lyric adds so much depth to the song and it is one of her most iconic lyrics she has produced. The rest of the song isn’t terrible but not my favorite. This track adds a little bit of a country twist to the album which I liked, because it added more to the overall album. I would rate this song a 6/10.
Juno
“Juno” jumps back into the upbeat parts of the album which is a nice switch up. This song is so adorable and reminds me of love at first sight. This track is about all of the emotions you feel when you start to like someone. This is incredibly catchy, and it’s a good switch up from the sadder tracks previous to this one. I would rate this a 6/10.
Lie To Girls
This song jumps back into the sad feel of the album in previous tracks. This song is amazing and portrays society very well. This is one of the most relatable songs on the album. This song goes over how in relationships some girls will lie to the boy to make them like them more. This song makes many girls feel seen and is one of my favorites from the album. I would rate this song 7/10.
Don’t Smile
This is the album closer and it leaves the album off with a bang. The melody is sweet and adds to the album very well. She takes the phrase “smile because it happened” to a new level. She puts her own spin on this song and it is amazing. This closes the album very well and leaves you on a happy note. This song is a 6/10.
This album is arguably one of the biggest albums of 2024, and is jam packed with hits and amazing topics. Sabrina Carpenter is a growing artist and is one of the top singers in the world right now which is well deserved.
