“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the highest grossing Marvel movie this year, and one of the biggest movies of this past summer.
This is a big movie, and the fight scenes and quotes are some of my favorite parts. Deadpool has to save his home world from a threat that requires him to team up with Wolverine to help. The movie strays away from what Disney is doing with MCU movies, especially post-“Avengers: Endgame.” “Deadpool & Wolverine” is more of a tribute/end to the 20th Century Fox Marvel movies from the 2000s and 2010s, having many references to those movies while also being its own movie.
The first time Deadpool and Wolverine were on the big screen together was in the 2009 movie, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, though it was a trainwreck that led to a far better franchise. Ryan Reynolds was frustrated about being part of the film, as he cared greatly about the Deadpool character. Eventually, Fox told him that he had the chance to introduce Deadpool properly. Viewers likely noticed that the two “Deadpool” made a great deal of fun of Wade Wilson in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, and even threw away some events from that film (specifically the moment that introduced Wade).
Following “Origins,” the first “Deadpool” film started as the result of leaked CGI-animated test footage. The scene basically depicted the beginning of the first film where Deadpool is sitting on a bridge. Fast forward to 2024, and “Deadpool & Wolverine” set the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. It also broke the trend of Marvel characters in the 20th Century Fox Marvel films being unable to get Funko Pop figures designed. Instead, they could only have figures based off of their comic book designs.
This very worthy sequel has many cameos and fits in with both the original Deadpool and original Wolverine movies while also fitting in with the MCU story. The performances from the actors and actresses in the movies did a good job with their acting. The movie isn’t supposed to be taken as seriously like other Marvel movies, and this is something I liked. It makes the film stand out from other movies made by Marvel. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with “Deadpool & Wolverine” in terms of writing and acting, but I will admit the CGI could be a bit better.
The movie is something I would recommend, I’d rate it 5 out of 5 stars. For those who did not get to see it in theaters, it starts streaming on multiple platforms beginning Oct. 1.
