GROTON, Conn – Despite the location and the students variety of attitudes leading to the night, Junior Prom was a hit.
On May 18, the class of 2025 had their Junior Prom. The theme was floating lanterns and was held in the large gym from 7 to 10 at Fitch. Leading up to prom, many people were questioning why it would be held in the gym, and soon after that the class started asking for donations of food and sent out an Amazon wishlist for decorations. This further surprised the students, and so the class council responded.
On the Junior Class Instagram, @_falconsof2025_ the class council stated, “Our prom this year is in the gym, and while we know that is not as exciting, we are doing this to ensure that we can save as much money as possible for all of our senior events.” The post further explained, “Keeping that in mind nothing will be possible next year without you guys now. That means we need people to buy tickets and get active when we have events and fundraisers.”
For many students, this cleared up any questions surrounding the event, and enthusiasm began to build as the day got closer.
At prom food and drinks were provided to the students, along with a DJ and a Photoshoot corner run by Mrs. Scala, where the pictures were printed and handed out. The gym was fully decorated and tailored towards the theme of the night. However many students agreed that it would have been better in the smaller gym, because the big gym was too spread out and seemed empty. Some students also commented that the lighting in the gym was not great due to some of the gym lights being left on.
Despite any initial fears surrounding prom, spirits were high. The DJ played a mix of current popular songs with some lesser known. This included Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night,” Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.
Before the night was out, the Junior class did have an election for Prom Court at the dance. Charlotte Beaulieu won Prom Queen and Dominick Zuliani won Prom King.
Overall, many felt that Junior Prom ended up coming together nicely considering the controversy, and most regarded the event as a fun night with friends.
