GROTON, Conn. – Fitch High School has named Mrs. Amy McKenna as a new assistant principal.
When previous assistant principal Mr. Matthew Brown was promoted to the role of Principal at Fitch, there was an opening for his previous title. . This led to a series of interviews which ultimately led to Mrs. McKenna filling the role. Her new title was announced on Monday, Nov. 13.
“Teaching students has helped me by giving me a new adventure each day, and each year honestly has its own characteristics to appreciate,” said Mrs. McKenna “Students are constantly in motion, which keeps the job a lot less like a job and more like something I love doing each day.”
Mrs. McKenna has been slowly transitioning into her new position as assistant principal, she is actively teaching to create a smooth transition for her students, however this makes her days super busy. Her primary goal for the community is to make Fitch a better place for everyone, and will be working on small goals to get the community there.
“I am enjoying the transition overall,” said Mrs. McKenna
When asked about if she had any parting messages for her students, Mrs. McKenna said, “ [for my] 3A and 4A classes that became my ‘last classes’ for a while, my message is to keep letting me know how you are doing this year, and that I really am grateful for beginning this school year with all of you.”
Mrs. McKenna started at Fitch as a teaching intern in 1997, and taught here her first three years as a teacher. used to be head of the English department. She returned to Fitch in 2012 where she became the English Department Chair at Fitch High School and 6-12 ELA Curriculum Coordinator for Groton Public Schools.
