GROTON, Conn. – Fitch’s first Thanksgiving food drive has come to an end along with the five-day break, and many are now reflecting on how the drive went this year and what the school was able to accomplish.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive, hosted by BSU, has officially ended with 470 cans being donated to the Groton Food Locker. Every student was encouraged to bring in canned foods to their CTLs by their teachers. Mrs. Coraizaca, being the biggest contributor to the drive along with Ms. Kadambaya and Ms. Holubecki.
“I gave reminders every day, saying stuff like ‘check your pantries,’” said Mrs. Coraizaca. “I sent out emails [and] put out messages on Schoology.”
Mrs. Coraizaca adds that between four and five of her students ended up donating all of the 46 cans collected.
“BSU partnered with the Groton Food Locker this year,” said Assistant Principal Carmita Hodge. “All canned goods and non-perishable were dropped off on Tuesday afternoon [Nov. 21].”
Many of the students and faculty involved were very happy with the amount of cans donated. Since this was the first year Fitch hosted a drive like this, there was much hype surrounding it, and many now hope that this drive will become an annual tradition.
