GROTON, Conn, — Winter sports are quickly approaching at Fitch High School and one highly anticipated sport this season is basketball.
Fitch basketball has always been competitive and expects to be again this year. Practice started this week and the season officially starts on Dec. 12 with their first game against East Lyme. In the past Fitch’s basketball team has always been competitive and hardworking. This year it’s no different.
“I am ‘nervouscited;’ it’s a mix between nervous and excited,” said Katherine Wenger, a ninth grader trying out for the team this year. “I am looking forward to having Coach Falecia as a coach and being able to practice although it will be challenging.”
“The team and coaching is definitely at a completely new level and is only continuing to evolve,” states Jayda Johnson. “I trust the coaches and their methods, it’s going to be challenging but it’ll be rewarding in the end.”
Basketball is one of many winter sports starting this week including indoor track, fencing, boys swimming and diving, winter cheerleading, wrestling, and gymnastics. There are many athletes and teams ready to take on the season.
