On September 18, 2020, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away from complications with pancreatic cancer. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, often referred to by the  initials “RBG,” was an American jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from her nomination in 1993 until her recent passing in September 2020. She was nominated by former President Bill Clinton. Throughout her tenure on the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg fought for gender equality, specifically in regard to women’s rights regarding abortion, and was an activist until the very day of her passing.

In her absence, President Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to fill her vacancy in the Supreme Court on September 26. Barrett was then approved in the hearing held by the Senate to serve in the Supreme Court on October 26, 2020 and confirmed for her position on October 31.
